Choosing a Custom Truck Body for Your Work Truck

If you use a truck for work to haul tools, equipment, or other items to the job site, you may need to put a custom aluminum truck body on the truck to make things easier. A custom body does not always mean custom-made, but it could be designed for you if you need something particular for your job.

Custom Truck Bodies

When you consider putting a truck body on your track to do a specific job, finding a custom aluminum truck body is not difficult. There are dealers that make and sell these bodies all over the US. Most dealers offer many different models tailored to your job needs, but some can build one to your specification too.

When you are looking for a one-of-a-kind body made just for you, the cost of the truck body will likely go up. However, if there are details critical to your work that you can't get on a body already in production, it may be worth the extra cost.

While production truck bodies often come ready to put on the truck, talk to the dealer if there is something you would like to change. In some situations, the manufacturer can add or remove something to make the custom aluminum truck body work better for you without purchasing a completely custom-built unit.

Common Truck Body Styles

One of the most common custom aluminum truck bodies on the market is a utility body that offers a small cargo area between two banks of toolboxes accessed from the outside of the truck. You can fill the boxes with tools and equipment that you use daily on the job, and most are flexible enough to allow you to move shelves around inside and make things fit.

The open cargo area on these bodies is a great place to mount a portable welder, air compressor, or other gas-engine powered equipment that puts out exhausts and needs to draw in the fresh air. Many people use this configuration, and if you are going to mount equipment in the bed, you may want to have a cover or trap made to fit over the equipment when the weather is bad.

You may prefer a utility body similar to the open body, but instead of the open bed, the custom aluminum truck body may have a roof over the cargo area that allows you to store some items inside the truck. Sometimes, the body will have shelves or bins inside to put parts or other small items, and in most cases, this style will have a set of doors on the rear that can be closed and locked to secure the items in the cargo area.

Choosing the right style for your truck may depend on how you will use your new truck body, so take some time and look at the options available before you choose what kind of truck body is right for your needs.
